The Mason Sustainability Council’s (MSC) response to advance institutional sustainability is actively evolving as the council expands its efforts.
Circular Economy and Zero Waste Task Force
In the spring of 2021, the MSC launched the Circular Economy and Zero Waste (CEZW) Task Force to advance the university’s commitment to sustainability and make Mason a zero-waste university.
The CEZW Task Force’s work is expansive and focused on the institutional implementation of circular economies and zero waste infrastructure to lead Mason to zero waste – greater than 90% diversion from trash or incineration – throughout the university’s operations. Carbon Neutrality Task Force
In the fall of 2021, the MSC launched the Carbon Neutrality Task Force (CN) to develop a two-phased Climate Action Plan to chart the university’s course to achieve carbon neutrality.
Phase I will articulate an ambitious vision to propel the university to carbon neutrality, with a release scheduled for April 2022. Phase II develops an implementation strategy, and timelines for that ambitious vision, with a release scheduled for no later than April 2023. Read more about the task force here.
Additional task forces will be announced as soon as they are launched.
